Before You Begin

  • The term "tie-dye" literally means "tie and dye." This technique allows you to create an infinite variety of patterns and effects, and is also known as batik.
  • Aybel's kits include powdered dyes in various shades, a pair of gloves, and rubber bands for tying the fabric.
  • Just add water and a little salt to the bottles containing the coloring powder... and let the fun begin!

Let's get started!

  • In addition to the tie-dye kit, you'll need some fabric to dye. Natural materials such as cotton, wool, linen, and silk are best; it's best to use white fabrics.
  • Protect your table or work surface with a plastic sheet or some trash bags: stains are almost inevitable.
  • Dampen the cloth, but don't get it too wet.
    Roll or fold the fabric fairly tightly and secure it with rubber bands.
  • The patterns and designs you get will depend on how you roll and secure the fabric. You can search for "tie-dye" or "batik" online to find inspiration.
    Now, spray the prepared dye onto the fabric. You can apply different colors to different areas to create various effects and patterns.
  • Let the dye sit for at least 15 minutes before removing the rubber bands. The longer you let the dye sit, the deeper it will penetrate the fabric, and the more the shades will tend to blend into one another.

After dyeing

  • Once you've removed the elastic bands, unfold the fabric to reveal the result.
    Let the dyed fabric dry without rinsing it first.
  • Ideally, dry the fabric by laying it flat on a flat surface, on old towels, or on the grass, away from direct sunlight.
  • Once it's dry, you can rinse the fabric gently. Keep in mind that some color may run during this process.
  • Use Aybel Fiske in the final rinse water to further set the dye and ensure your creations last longer.
  • Afterward, you can hand-wash the fabric at a maximum temperature of 30°C.

Warning: Keep Aybel products out of the reach of children. Not intended for consumption. In case of contact with the eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of running water.

Worked amazingly to restore a faded pair of trousers to a rich shade of brown. I used the whole bottle to dye a pair of large men's trousers in the washing machine. I recommend running an empty cycle afterwards to completely remove any traces of the dye in the machine.
